Una Fiesta con Casa De Maria

FIRST…we just received our very first pictures with Diego and Yerly today.  These were from the first moment we met.  ENCUENTRO FAMILIA ROTHWELL 001

This morning we got to sleep in…which was good considering last night.  Bedtime is not going so hot.  These last few days have been push every button days.

After breakfast we swam in the pool.  Diego and Yerly are getting to be pretty good swimmers using a swimming cap and goggles in the kiddie pool.

When it was time to trade turns with the goggles.  Diego got mad and dunked Yerly …in not a nice way.  We asked him to sit out on the chair for 5 minutes…to which he starting screaming on the ground.  We asked him again to sit and more screaming.  So we told him if he did not stop he would have to go back to the room….Not great timing for us.  Today was a huge conference at the hotel…hundreds of people were here.  Mike-the American- had to carry a screaming Latin boy through the halls while all others looked at him in dismay….poor mike.  Diego screamed in the room for 20 minutes until he finally calmed down and came out peacefully.  Whew….a test in our patience.

Good news…we found out that our case goes before the judge on Monday afternoon and the adoption becomes official.  On Tues. someone will travel to their birth town to get the official birth certificates and Wed we get their passports. That means TH we may be flying to Bogota! We only need to be in Bogota a few business days at the US embassy then we can fly home!!

This afternoon we were invited back to Casa de Maria for a fiesta for the end of the school year…with costumes.  We painted their faces and were ready to go.  When we arrived, all of the kids were outside in costumes…batman, superman, winnie the pooh, a duck, minnie mouse, several princesses…The kids came running to greet Diego and Yerly.  One of the workers grabbed them and took them into the building to change…the looked a little timid at this point.  They came back out in a bunny rabbit costume and peasant outfit…both desperately searching for us…looking for the car, which made me so sad.

Several of the kids came around and asked again if we were D and Y’s parents.  One little 8yr old girl asked if she could come with us too.  Break your heart into a million pieces.  The same little girl asked Mike if she could come back with us too.  She hovered near us the entire party..sharing her cheetos and clinging by our side.

CDM had hired an entertainment team.  They were all dressed up in walking stilts, some sort of spring loaded jumping feet, clowns, jugglers, musicians…etc..  A definite party with a mini circus that you could touch!!!  The entertainers pulled out a giant tunnel, danced with the kids.  Pulled some of the little kids up on the walking stilts and just had a FUN time.  The little girls danced away…one 9 yr old…could do the Rhumba like you have never seen.  She was really happy to dance with Mike…then others followed!  We were happy to find out that she has a family coming to get her in December and she has a new home!  But there were soooo many without homes and without hope in their eyes.

When we got back we skyped home to check on the kids and headed out for dinner.

The hotel has hired a Peruvian chef for 25 days and they have a Peruvian menu and Peruvian attire for this time.   Mike had a fish platter that was one of the best fish platters yet. I had a Peruvian dish of rice with chicken, beef and pork and sauces…very yum.  Yerly ordered chicken and rice. Diego ordered Rice and eggs.  They were big plates and they cleaned their plates and ate every last grain of rice.

At dinner Yerly wanted to play pretty face/ugly face.  She would make a pretty face and then an ugly one…we had to say which one it was.  Diego tried …..but his ugly face is just plain cute.

We went back to the room to dance and they loved running across the room doing a tango with partners.

Tonight we were able to skype with Grandma and Grandpa Rothwell and the Kanviks.  Diego and Yerly were really excited to see them for the first time.

Bedtime started out in chaos and has settled down now…in less than 30minutes!!
