Last night we came home to new flowers in the room!! Pink roses this time!
This morning we got up at 5:00 to make cinnamon rolls in the room before the older kids returned to the states. Olivia and Gretta are ready to return. Ella and Dayne were not as ready. Some tears and big hugs. Gloria, our translator met Mike and the kids in the lobby to go to the airport. After checking in, the kids enjoyed one last Colombian coffee….frappaccino of course. The kids were assigned an escort to help them board the plane and to help them get through immigration and customs where they met Tristin’s parents. They all boarded the same flight to Chicago early this evening.
Gloria treated Mike to a traditional Medellin breakfast. Arepas…corn flatbread with a grilled pork strip, fried banana and cafe. Tristin, Diego and Yerly had coffee and yogurt in the room!
Once they returned to the hotel, we loaded up the ninos and went to the store. Today our mission was to buy diapers for the Casa De Maria y El Nino..their orphanage. We went to an Exito first, which is very much like a walmart. Along the way, Diego got carsick once again. Now we are prepared and brought 2 bags just in case….we used both and then another. We had to buy him a new shirt in Exito, since there was a hole in the bag. We found the diapers to be a little expensive and Gloria decided to take us to a warehouse of shops. “Central Mayorista de Antioquia” It is a little open garage like atmosphere above loading docks. You can go and buy in bulk for much less. We found the diapers we needed and bought close to 1,500 diapers.
When we returned to the hotel…of course…a la piscina..pool. It was a little cooler today and the sun went down, so they did not swim long. The days are very typical here. The sun rises at 5:30 and by 9:00 the sun is out and burned off the morning fog. The sun shines until about 2:00 and then the rain comes for a few hours. The sun sets at about 5:30 in the night.
Tonight we ventured out for dinner. We took a taxi down the road to an outdoor upscale food court that is above a 24 hour grocery store. Supermercado Carullo Las Palmas. VERY NICE SURPRISE!!! We went to the store first to buy candy for them to give to their friends. Tomorrow we return to Casa De Maria y El Nino. The food was excellent and inexpensive with yet another incredible view of the city lights. Mike ordered cannellini and Tristin had Lasagna. While eating the lasagna Diego made a very ugly face and asked if the lasagna noodle was paper. We told him no…but he still wouldn’t eat it. Diego and Yerly enjoyed a milkshake with our meal.
When we got back to the room Yerly said …oh lets check to see if someone brought new flowers?!? :)
After dinner, they begged for LA BASURA. Which means the junk. We created a game that we call “taking out the trash.” We throw them over our shoulder, bounce around the room and back to the bed and flip them down. They begged for more more more. We asked how many times we should do it? Diego said 5. Yerly said 40. We opted for 10.
Bedtime tonight was a little rougher with a different routine. But now all is well…and they are asleep!! whew! The kids made it to Miami and just saw that they arrived in Chicago. Hope to talk to them tomorrow!!!
And also….Tomorrow…Casa de Maria.
