Delayed……

This morning we went with Gloria to get passport pictures taken of the ninos. While in the store, we got the phone call saying the case has been delayed because one of the attorneys could not make it today.  We will find out tomorrow if we are able to go to court tomorrow afternoon or have to wait until Wed.  A small delay.  In the store there was a Juan Valdez Cafe – yes, that Juan Valdez - we enjoyed a mocha and cappuccino while the bugs had an orange juice.

After the photos we went to a children's hospital to get vaccinations for the little love bugs so they can leave the country.  Yerly needed 3 shots and 1 oral polio.  Diego needed 2 shots.  Not big fans of loading their bodies with so much at once…but we didn’t have a choice.    Yerly did great!  Not even a tear.  Diego went second and I think the anxiety of waiting got to him a little – some tear were shed but overall not too bad of an experience.

We returned to the hotel for some pool time with the newest toys – inflatable rings.  We spent the next hour or so catching D&Y jumping into the pool and racing each other…IMG_0154

Tonight we were invited to our interpreter's(Gloria’s) home with Alba Lucia (orphanage manager) and had coffee and carrot cake. IMG_0199

It was a fantastic time continuing to get to know these wonderful Colombian ladies…and lots of laughs!!  We had several questions answered or at least a little more clear about the children's home and the kids.  Casa de Maria y El Nino is a private orphanage which means they are totally independent financially from any government or church funds.  Their funding comes from private donations and from the adoption fees.  The children (36 that are 3+ and another 36 under 3) are adoptable.  The time for them to be adopted is many times age and sibling dependent.  Babies normally go quickly but sibling groups (especially older ones) can be there for 3 years or more.  The kids can be there through the eleventh grade when they graduate. (right now the oldest is 13 - oldest sibling of 3) They work very hard to keep siblings together.  We all agreed that the process while the intentions are good to protect children needs to be improved and streamlined to make adoption more readily acceptable to the homes of families that have a heart to do so.

We returned late to the hotel and put the kids to bed.  Yerly is not feeling the best and sore from having a shot in each arm and in one leg but went right to sleep.  Diego was quite cranky and one of his two arms was really bothering him – took a while for him to settle down and go to sleep.

Tomorrow morning we will find out if our adoption closing will be tomorrow or later.  If it is past tomorrow the chances of us returning to Reedsburg this weekend are slim to none.  Also, Monday is a holiday in Colombia so…

Delayed was a little disappointing…
